It’s probably the only thing I miss about the house we spent 12 years in.
I miss pulling our mattress into the lounge room and cuddling up under the blankets with the kids and watching movies in the warmth.
I miss sending the kids to bed and then bill and I snuggling in front of the fire and falling asleep while the flames die down.
I miss having a mantel to put…stuff….on, especially at Christmas (yes, I said the C word again in July!) when I want to hang the stockings and display my Nutcrackers and other Chrissy decor.
I had the idea of building a fake fireplace around an electric heater but then I thought it would look a little too weird.
But then again, if it’s done tastefully, it might just look ok.
It’ll just take us a little longer to get this, and the other things we want to fix up here, now that Bill is on social security disability payments.
Just have to add it to the long list of things to do!

Hi Tina. Nice.
This stirs up some ambivalent feelings for me. I love real firs – there's nothing like the warmth, the smell, sound of a wood fire. One of my nicest memories of my little girl Isabelle is when I 'tried out' the fire in the home we'd recently moved into. Belle and her three big sisters all snuggled up and watched as I very (in)expertly tended the flames. Bittersweet.

Your story makes me miss my fire even more!
