Keeping a gift closet

by ~Tina on August 12, 2010

OK some of you are going to freak out because I’m mentioning the C word already. I should really keep paper bags on hand for those who are going to hyperventilate. but I like to live dangerously so I’m still gonna post this, risking all the death stares :D

I was thinking today about the promises I made to myself at the end of last year about Christmas.

I had planned to create a special space when we moved into this house that can be used as my gift closet.

I had planned to buy Christmas gifts throughout the year.

I had planned to keep a list in my diary/organiser with everyone I buy gifts for and a list of what I had bought.

Yeah, nah.  I’m nowhere as organised as I would have liked to be. Although I have bought a few things, they’re scattered around the place in the hope that the kids don’t snoop!

But how nice would it be to have a gift closet? Then you can go shopping throughout the year with your list, looking for deals on the things that the people on your list will like. You could come home, stick a post-it note on the gift with the recipient’s name written on it so you don’t forget who you bought it for and store it in your gift closet knowing that you have just lessened the stress on yourself during the mad Christmas rush.

When do you start shopping for Christmas?

Great idea Tina – I do something similar, but its a "Gift Shelf" in my sewing room – I am always picking up little things I see on sale during the year and keep them handy for Christmas, birthdays, and baby gifts. Also keeping wrapping paper and cards on hand is great, it all makes life much less stressful!!

I need to find a better way to keep wrapping and cards. Not organised in that department either.

I have one. Well, it's a blanket box, but I keep all my presents in there, and I shop through out the year so at Christmas time it's not such a big job.

Oh, a blanket box is a great storage spot! I really do need to get more organised and shop more throughout the year!

I start my Christmas shopping when the Boxing day sales start. I also make sure that I have extra Christmas wrapping paper handy so that I can wrap pressies up as I go so that I am not tempted to hand them out for birthdays.

I must admit though I am nowhere near as organised as I would like to be.

Wrapping as soon as you buy it is a great idea! Thanks Jo-anne! :)
