Today’s guest poster is one of my favourite bloggers. Carly describes herself as “a twenty-three year old that has enough life experiences to be at least fifty, give or take. Lives in a city where her spending cannot be curbed. Has a super-awesome boyfriend, who she has loved for the past three years, and most certainly is the one. Blogs far too much.”
*I* describe her as a passionate blogger whose blog posts always make me think. She’s my WordPress guru and even though she’s much younger than me, one of my close online buddies.

As I was searching through Cathy Thorne’s cartoons {http://www.everydaypeoplecartoons.com}, I stumbled upon this one:
It made me stop and think.
I have one of those.
Actually if I am being honest, there are two items that fit that bill.
One being a little strapless Jeanswest dress. Size ten. The other, a pair of Witchery denim shorts. Also size ten.
The first, being a bargain. Now seriously, what girl in their right mind would turn down a fifteen dollar dress? Okay, it may have been slightly more but lets not get too pedantic about it okay?
And well those shorts. They were sitting on eBay with no bids, who am I to punish them just because I know that they wont fit my size fourteen to sixteen hips? Not me, oh no, not me.
Oh and I say fourteen to sixteen because well, due to Australia and their shitty sizing, I am not a standard size, ever. I can even squeeze my babies {my boobs for those of you playing along at home} into a size ten dress. Hips are a completely different matter. Twelve if I breathe in really well.
Why on Earth do we do it to ourselves? Aim to fit into a piece of clothing?
I posted an image on my own blog this morning, and I hope I don’t get in trouble from Tina for swearing but it is true.
Society is fucked.
Their idea of what is acceptable body image is just that, fucked.
I am slowly moving away from that, but I will keep those two size ten items. After all I did pay for them.
Do you own any items of clothing that you are wishing yourself into?

I just got rid of a couple of those things in the move… but I still have one dress which I love and honestly may fit back into one day… I swear!
I have a box of size 16/14 pants and 14/12 tops (tops are always a size smaller than bottoms, makes buying a dress so hard!) that my mum wa tossing out, but I figured if I lost weight I would need, especially the pants if I return to work.
They make a very comfy bed for my cats
All my work suits are sitting there waiting for me to fit into them. two babies later, chances are slim, but I will keep them anyway.
I am still wishing myself into Roxy Jeans which are marked as being a size 16 and would be lucky to be a size 12 I reckon!
They are out of fashion and probably completely the wrong shape for me but, they have been faithfully hanging in my wardrobe for years and one day I will wear them.
I have a drawer full. One day I just need to throw them all out.
*sigh* I have quite a few things that don't fit anymore in my wardrobe. I promise myself I'll get back into them all one day. But who knows when that one day will be!
I will take them to my grave I think and my last words will be "I ONCE fit in these!! size 27!!Here is PROOF!")O_o
love the post, esp. your charitable ebay auction.. lol will now discover your blog.
I soooooooooo agree with this sentiment.
I like to refer to these clothes as The Ones That Mock Me.
Apparently, Oprah calls them 'wardrobe decoration'.
Most of my pre-baby clothes don't fit me anymore, but I struggle to part with them, as it will probably leave my whole wardrobe bare!
I recently did a survey for http://www.FoxInFlats.com.au which showed that 41% of mothers wear hardly any of their pre-baby wardrobe, and 11% wear none at all. At least I'm not alone on that one.
Yes
A whole wardrobe full and numerous boxes in the garage. I am just not ready to part with all my pre baby clothes just yet. I want to give myself a chance to lose the weight. If I then can't fit into them, I will make a killing selling them on ebay… I have the most beautiful clothes
Oh yeah, and how about the clothes that we keep for 'special occassions', but they just hang there providing a feast for the moths instead? I decided to give some of mine an outing in my day to day, and all of a sudden have expanded my wardrobe (read about that here http://www.foxinflats.com.au/2011/01/keeping-it-f…
Worth a try…!
Hehe. Thanks for all your comments, lovely to know that I am not alone!

Oh I have had way too many of these … I have given them most away but keep a few, just to torture mysel!
I don't fit in to half my wardrobe. I hate sizing, I have clothes that fit me that are labeled 12, 14, 16 and even an 18. As a guess I'd say I was a 15 if it existed.
I have a whole box of stuff. But it's not stuff from when I was a teen or young adult, it's stuff that I'd wear and is only a size or two smaller than I am now. It's my shrinking box so I'll have stuff to fit me as I (eventually) lose the weight
I'm heartless. If I don't wear it for a year, it's gone to the Op-Shop. That includes the things that don't fit. Because I don't want to torture myself. That picture? That picture was drawn just for me
