I don’t often get headaches but when I do, they are doozies.
When it’s that bad, the only way I can deal with it is by popping some pain kilers, going into a dark room, hiding under the doona with lavender oil burning in the oil burner and a cool cloth on my forehead.
A couple days ago, I was suffering from a particularly bad one. I went to bed with it and it was still there when I woke up. After popping a couple more painkillers, I told Bill that I needed to lay down for a while.
It was then that I remembered the pillow insert Cool Gel Mat that I was sent to try out.
The Cool Gel Mat is “a patented product developed in Japan three years ago, designed to provide cooling relief for anyone who sleeps hot in bed.”
Available in a range of sizes to suit different mattresses, it’s designed to help reduce a person’s body temperature, allowing for a better night’s sleep for those who get really hot at night.
But, getting back to me….
The cool gel mat was cool to the touch so I placed it on top of my pillowcase, popped some Panadol and jumped under the doona as I usually do. Immediately the coolness on my temple was a relief and just as good as having a cold cloth on my forehead.
So I’m thinking that if you are really hot and you had a cool gel mat the size of your side of the mattress, that would be nice and cooling.
Apparently it takes two hours for the mat to reach your body temperature but I don’t know. Because I fell asleep.
And that is is why I’m loving it. Usually I’m lying in bed, under my doona, with a thumping head, waiting to doze off so I don’t have to put up with it.
I woke up headache-free.
What else I love about it:
- it’s soft so it’s comfortable to sleep on
- you can get it in different sizes so if you are a hot sleeper, and your partner isn’t, you can get one that just fits your side of the bed
- it doesn’t cost anything to run, unlike running fans to cool down
- it’s safe – the cool gel mat is made up mostly from 95% water, it’s non-toxic and environmentally friendly
- it’s hand washable
- it would be great for those hot flushes that I’m bound to be complaining about in a few years

Best tip for me is to take migraine preventer pill. Otherwise it is all bad.

I follow via GFC as emmabovary and would love to win one of these for my Mum. She has constant headaches and her only cure is also a dark room and some sleep (and a sweet daughter to bring her tea doesn't hurt either!) Thanks for the chance Tina x
I am a follower and I would have to say the way I get rid of headaches is with the old panadol, although I try to not use it for as long as I can…lucky I don't get them very often.
I get migraines sometimes and they are doozy's! I have to curl up in bed, and just hide from the kids, well if Daddy is home, if he's not, its cartoons and cuddles on the couch while I try not to move and hope they dont want to do much!
I'm a follower.
I get rid of headaches with nurofen or panadol – which ever packet lands in my hand first.
I suffer migraines so my best tip is try sleep it off if you can i have a super soft sleep mask to block out the light too. I follow via GFC and email.
Drink water and then get some shuteye

Wow, I think this cool pad would be great during Summer. When the pillow gets too hot at night.
I get migraines and the only way I have found to deal with them is to take strong pain killers (ideally something with a lot of codeine) and some sort of anti-nausea drugs so the painkiller stays in me long enough to work. I'm also a huge fan of the cold cloth on head method. I follow you via RSS.
Something that really works for me is Tiger Balm….just a smidgen on your forehead between your eyes works wonders. Many years ago an old Chinese gentleman told me about Tiger Balm and it's many uses, I'm so pleased I listened to his wise words.
Oh, and I am an avid follower of yours.
Following via email and FB.
I am with you as far as Panadol and a cold washer goes, I find it pretty hard to get a dark room so I also always add an eye mask to keep out the light!

I could really use one of these today! My head is thumping, and I think it might be because my neck is out – again
Best headache removal tip? Send the kids to Grandmas! LOL
x
Ooh! My feet get so hot in summer
This sounds good!
Headaches… yep, Panadol. Ideally also a head/temple massage from hubby, but yeah…

I suffer from migraines and my best tip to get rid of a headache is not to get one in the first place. Ha ha … like that's going to happen! My headache remedy is a pain relief tablet, a dark room and silence.
I subscribe via email. My tip for getting rid of headaches is to lie down in bed and have a nap with no noise.
I'm following via GFC and also subscribe to your emails
I get a lot of headaches and my best remedy is 2 Panadol tablets and lay down in a dark room.
I follow via email.
I'm entering this one for my Mum – her migraines are so bad that she takes tablets daily to avoid getting them. And when she does get them – it's another tablet, and into a dark room to sleep it off. I'm sure she'd appreciate anything that relieves them a bit!

I used to suffer with migraines, i say used to because i would miss an average of 20 days a term (or 4 weeks per 10) suffering from them, i had test upon test done and nothing was found to be wrong??? I used to have dymadon pain killers with dilmah tea. Now days i only get a migraine once a year if that and a headache isn't something i really notice too much, i know its there but can function with them.
I'd like to tell you to breath deeply and let go of the modern day stress that cause headaches, but that would be bull#%*^ ! Take some drugs( nothing illicit!) lay down in a darkened room or for a more fun approach a few glasses of wine will make you feel better (but not with the drugs-ok!)
I have had chronic headaches lately (4th pregnancy) and paracetamol is not helping! I have been drinking lots of water, but would love some other pregnancy friendly options. (Follow via facebook and GFC)

I must say these mats look just the thing for heat-intolerance common to myself and most MS sufferers. However, they also seem just the thing for those headaches when you just must escape.
My action plan then is hydrate with heaps of water, eliminate all background noise, draw the curtains and crawl under the doona after taking nurufen and hoping to sleep it away!
I find for a certain kind of headache, hitting it with some choccie and coke/coffee and a panadol can do the trick! Sometimes makes it worse though, but it's worth the gamble LOL

I've had a headache for the last three days & can't budge it so my ideas clearly don't work! I was actually sneaky on to steal some of your commenters ideas
Oooh I love a cold pillow! I’m a pill popper for headaches but also found a great remedy for tension headaches by Perfect Potions.
BTW u pop into my inbox quite regularly

I get migraines too. I just have to take my meds that get rid of them 90% of the time. Sometimes, I've tried a strong painkiller and one of those cool forehead patches you can get at the chemist. That works sometimes. I reckon the gel mat would be great to fall asleep on and let the drugs do their thing…

oh twitter too
The only thing that works for me, is a couple of pills, and QUIET, bit hard with the kids running around at home screaming, so it’s on with the tv for a movie, or the wii (although the wii normally causes more fights!)
Am already following you everywhere.
(Ooh. Sounds like a Police Song).
As a regular migraine sufferer (at least a couple a week) I've yet to find a decent solution. Mersyndol, sometimes 1 valium (if my neck is out) and a sleep. I can't take most drugs prescribed for migraines. I'd be very interested in trying something like this.
Following you every which way – twitter, google friend connect, rss feed, facebook.
I've always wondered about these gel mats, I'd love the chance to try one out.

Drink plenty of water and a couple of panadol, then a lie down
Having suffered from migraines for as long as I can remember the best thing for me, is exactly what you are doing. Compresses, medication, a nice dark, quiet room and sleep if you are able. I also find standing in a shower helps(but only while you are under the water) and vigorous hair brushing as it stimulates the blood flow…quite often you can get the kids to pamper you with this one….although you will probably experience a few bobs on the head….but they love to look after Mum. I do not like the idea of preventative medication, would rather wait and be sure
I find a good nap is a great headache killer!

I suffer daily headaches and weekly migraines that only prescribed migrane medication can assist me with. I am running out of options for treatment as no-one seems to have answers as to why I suffer the headaches and migraines. When i get them sleep, quiet time and dark room is fantastic – but difficult being a single mum.
email follower,
Headache cure panadol, quiet, water, eyes closed

.
I have to take 3 nurofen and lie in a dark room. Hate head hurts
My best tip is mersyndol and darkroom! Usually knocks my bad headaches/migraines out in no time!
Hi Tina – following you on GFC and FB. I really like the sound of this mat. I get migraines from time to time. I try and drink a lot and lie down somewhere cool, dark and quiet.
I subscribed via email. And I think sleep is the best thing to get rid of a headache. Oh, but this would help!
Now, can someone tell me the best way to get rid of labour pains!?
theaussiemommy@gmail.com
Lavender baby! Pop a few drops on a cotton bud and wipe it into your temples then give those temples a little massage and you will be on your way!
We’ve tried the forehead cooler patches and taking half an asprin under the tongue. The important part is catching the headache just as it begins!
Loads of water, a few Panadeine Extra and that's about it.. I had meningitis a few years back which doctors have said is the cause of my really strong headaches.. This mat sounds great!!
I hope in a hot shower and focus it all on my neck, right at the base of my skull. It’s a 50/50 chance to work! Depends on the headache .

Drugs and a sleep!. Dark room is about all. I think falling asleep with the gel mat would be great.
I get migraines, would love to try this out.. the only thing that helps is rest.. when its bad panadol does nothing at all
