Sydney Tower Eye 4D Experience

by ~Tina on September 29, 2011

Last week, Bill, Giorgia, Annabelle and I headed up to Sydney because we were invited to be amongst the first visitors to experience the Sydney Tower Eye 4D experience.

I hadn’t been up to Sydney Tower since I was a kid so in my head, I remembered it as being pretty daggy and out dated. I remember paying for a ticket to head up to the observation deck and receiving a token to put through the turn stile to head towards the lifts. *ahem* Yep, THAT long ago. It has changed. A lot.

We felt very VIP being ushered past the waiting crowd into the first part of the experience, which was more for international tourists, with information about Sydney and photos showing how Sydney Tower was built. It was interesting to learn that Sydney Tower is one of the smallest towers in the world.

I’ll have to admit that I had no idea what 4D was, until we were handed our 3D glasses and ushered into the cinema. We watched a short film about Sydney. We felt like we were in the film. What made it 4D was the special effects. I won’t share what they were because I don’t want to ruin it for you. But it was fun.

We headed towards the lifts to head up to the observation deck. I wouldn’t usually mention going up lifts in a blog post BUT did you know that the speed of the lifts in Sydney Tower depends on the wind outside?!

Apparently there are holes in the lift shaft that the wind blows through and if it’s really windy, the lifts go slower because otherwise it would feel like a roller coaster ride. Kinda. It can take between 40 seconds to 5 minutes to go up to the observation deck, depending on wind speeds.

Once up on the observation deck, we let our inner tourists run amok, checking out the views, taking heaps of photos (which I have uploaded to the TGDM Facebook page), and checking out the new interactive touch screens that showed you more information about what you were looking at.

Have I mentioned before that we love to play tourist? The girls had fun picking out the buildings and places that we have visited in the city.

When Bill pointed out Cook & Phillip Park Aquatic Centre to Annabelle, she got so excited and said “that’s where I saw Hayley Lewis!” I think Hayley has a fan for life. Heh.

We all had a great time and it was lovely seeing Eden, Brenda, Grace, Jodie and Kristyn (and kids).

Have you been to Sydney Tower before? Do you like playing tourist?

We were invited to experience the Sydney Tower Eye 4D by Hausmann Communications. All opinions belong to the Gray family.

We took our kids to play ‘tourist in the city’ at the end of August (last month)

Sydney Tower was one of our stops, we went up at night. The view was amazing.

Ooo I remember being there when I was about 10 I think? Or was I 11? All I remembered was I already had my sister, so I should be about that age and there was this really elderly man who would cut out silhouette of your face! So he did mine and my sis. I don't think he's around any more, he was pretty old then. Surprisingly I only remembered that about being in the tower!!
