So, when we told the kids to dress warm and to grab their beanies, they looked outside, saw the blistering sun and decided that Bill and I had finally lost the plot.
What we didn’t tell them was that we were heading to a “winter wonderland” that was set up at Mammoth Ice in Unanderra.
Popping on some gloves and our jackets, we stepped inside the large shipping container and it was like stepping on the snow fields in minus 8 degrees weather.
It was cool – literally.
But obviously not cool enough for the husband who went in wearing shorts. What a weirdo. But then, he IS Scottish. It was probably perfect Scottish summer weather for him.
The “room” was adorned with an ice fireplace, christmas tree, a snow man, a sleigh big enough for the girls to sit on and an ice slippery slide. And penguins – in ice sculpture form! You KNOW how much I {heart} penguins.
Mick, from Mammoth Ice, brought in a tub of snow and Bill didn’t waste any time showing the girls (who haven’t seen real snow before) how to make snow balls – and throw them at me.
As guests, we even got the opportunity to go on a tour “behind the scenes” and see how the ice is made and introduced to the idea of getting a vodka luge for my birthday *hint, hint, husband!*
It was fun. The girls had fun. Bill had fun. I could have done without the snow in my bra.
If you’re local and looking for a little something for the kids to do, the Mammoth Ice winter wonderland is located at 5 Waverley Drive, Unanderra and is open until January 31, 2012. Entry is $10 for children accompanied by an adult. Email Mick if you have any questions.
Tell me, have your kids seen real snow?
Disclaimer: I was under no obligation to blog about the winter wonderland. No monetary compensation exchanged hands. We did receive complimentary entry. I just like sharing with you what we get up to with the kids.

Mine have never seen the snow. I want it so much for them!
Sounds like a blast.
LoL-ed about the snow in the bra though. That’d soo be me.
I'm hoping that next year we will get to go on holidays to the snow.
My little miss is an avid skier and will go every week with her school this year over winter. We live at the base of Mt Hotham so it’s only a short drive to be amongst the glorious white stuff. I love it too! Can’t wait to get back up there this year:-)
Sounds great!
That looks like such fun! My kids are a bit old for it though. And great job with the pics, they look fantastic!
Nothing like going to the snow but it was fun
My kids are busting to see snow. as we are having 'no parties' this year we might take the kids to the snow for the day for my son's b'day in the middle of the year. But that is an awesome idea.
Going to the snow for his birthday is a great idea!
