I’m playing along with Lisa’s Thursday Three this week and seeing as today is Australia Day, she asked us to share three things that we love about this country of ours.
winters that aren’t really winters. Every Aussie winter when I’m complaining about it being freezing and that I can’t feel my toes, Bill’s family in Scotland and England like to remind me that what I am experiencing is not a winter and that they can show me a Winter. I thank my lucky stars that I don’t need to dig myself out of my house in the mornings when the “snow drifts half way up the door overnight, while you’re sleeping with every parka, doona and blanket on top of your bed because the heating has stopped working and your milk bottles are frozen to the porch.” Yep, Aussie winters are pretty lame. Heh.

See, we DO get snow in Australia. Just not the kind that makes your world look like a Winter Wonderland.
living in between the mountains and the beach. Wollongong is beautiful. We have the escarpment on one side where we can go bush walking, stroll through rain forests, go rock-climbing and camping, and on the other side we have multiple beaches to choose from – all within an hours drive from home. I can’t think of a better place to live.

I have lived in Australia my whole life and I have never ever seen a kangaroo on a beach. Or bouncing down the middle of town. But I DID own one!
the people. OK so there are some dickheads. I know a few that I would like to high five, in the face, with a shovel. You get that everywhere. But overall, Aussies are a friendly race. We know how to take a joke. We go with the flow. We don’t get offended too easily – we have to, seeing as how many tv shows and movies try and imitate our accent!
Ok, so I went looking for an image of people but couldn’t find any I liked. Images, that is. Not people. So I found Tim Tams instead. You’re welcome.
Happy Australia Day!

Ahh..yes, the Tim Tam I think should be one icon Australians should be proud of! Now if only they leave the originals alone and not create new versions of it.

I totally agree with you. Why fix something that's not broken!?
I think these things would be my top three things too. The weather, the landscape and the people. I've travelled to many countries and firmly believe that I am living in the best one
But now I really want a Tim Tam… or two…

Australia is pretty cool
Tim Tams were on special in Coles last week. I must have sold hundreds of packets every day. I don’t like them much, they’re too sweet, too chocolatey, too…….something. I can eat one, but then I’ve had enough. For about the next five years. Kind of odd when you know I love chocolate.
Probably a good thing that I didn't know they were on sale. I don't buy them that often but they ARE yummy!
Oh my goodness, NO ONE can do our accent! It always sounds awful!

I agree with you, Lis. I don't do heat very well.
Oh! I haven't eaten a Tim Tam in 6 months. The Pred removed my ability to tolerate chocolate, and it never came back. Sob. I miss the idea of Tim Tams….

As sad as that is, I think not being able to eat chocolate would probably be a good thing for me!
