Did you see this image in your Facebook feed recently? It’s the brainchild of a Facebook group and I think it’s a brilliant idea.
I’m shocking at saving money. But seeing it set out like this over 52 weeks looks quite manageable to me.
But I think I’m going to tackle it in a different way. There may be some weeks that I might not have the amount required to put away as savings, so instead I’m just going to pick an amount that I can afford that week (you can see I have crossed off the $9.00. That’s all I had left in my account so I transferred it over to my savings account), transfer it into my savings account and cross it off my list – which is hanging in my “chick corner” in plain sight so I can see where I’m at.
I’ll cross off each amount as I go and (hopefully) by the end of the year, I’ll have a nice little amount saved up and I’m going to surprise my family with a little getaway over the Christmas break.
Does this method of saving look good to you? Are you a good saver or a better spender?

I have stared a jar each for husband, son and myself and will be putting in each week. The end of the year (particularly eith Christmas) is going to be hard, but it will be good for me to have to think about spending at that time to make sure I have the $150 or so to save each week. Good luck !
That’s a good idea!
I saw this on Facebook and I started it a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to do it for two years starting over again next year so that by the end of it we should have enough for our flights to Fiji for my mother-in-law’s 70th birthday in December 2014.

That’s an awesome incentive
What a cool idea! I love your take on it too x
Hoping I stick to it!
I decided to do this when I saw it on facebook. I’m depositing into my bonus saver account so I’ll score some extra interest along the way.
I also decided to do the same thing into the kids accounts. For this one I started @ $26.00 and for one I will work up the list and the other down so each week it will be $52 between them.

Sounds like a plan
What a great idea. I don’t have facebook (I know I am the only person on this earth who doesn’t) so I appreciated you posting this. I might discuss it with ‘the man’ tonight and see what he thinks about it.
I am a horrible saver. honest and truly. I used to be great at it, then i got married.,..I got better at it,…. then we had kids… now it just seems like things are a tad out of control and we go from pay checque to pay checque. The bills get paid and thats about it. I have so many savings goals….. oh well… the best of intentions at least…
Yup, hubby and I were good savers before we had kids.
What a great idea! I saw this a while back on FB too.

You can also do it in reverse as well.
I have printed this out as well

You should have a nice stash at the end of the year following this. I’m doing something a little different – at the end of every week, I am skimming my bank account down to the nearest zero number and putting the $$ into an account. For ex: if the balance is $328.15, then I will transfer $8.15 to savings. No idea what the end result will be, but I figure its something different!

Your plan sounds like a good one too
I seen it too…and thought I might do it the way you’re doing it too. Some weeks I have next to nothing left, other weeks I might have that little bit more.
But like New Years resolutions I suck at saving! So we’ll see lol

What a brilliant idea. I would love to share this idea with so many of the families I work with. This is something that is very achievable. Thanks Tina.

Good luck! We should all check in later in the year
I am a dreadful saver. In fact, I’ve never saved for anything in my life. I just borrow and then pay back.
Getting my finances under control is one of my big missions this year. I hate living from payday to payday but it is all I’ve ever known. I hate saying to Ned we can’t do something because I don’t have money.
I’ve set up an automatic transfer to move money from my cash account into a savings account I can’t touch so hopefully that will get me started!
Now I just have to try to make it to the next payday without having to borrow again…
