My kids won’t eat any other kind of bread except white bread. It’s annoying, to say the least.

So when I was asked to participate in a “fight against carbs” challenge and swap white bread sandwiches with Cruskits for a week, I knew it was going to be a big challenge.

Huge.

But I was willing to give it a go. Because if anyone looked at the kids’ lunches, they would think that I’m not creative at all and this will be a nice change from the usual sangas.

My plan was to start working on them over the Easter break, forgetting to buy bread and off-handedly saying “there’s Cruskits in the cupboard”.

I left the kids to decide what they wanted to put on their Cruskits for lunch. I was watching Annabelle as she looked at a Cruskit, unsure if she was even going to take the tiniest little nibble off it. She is Miss Fussy from Fussy Town. But she did. And even told me that she thought it was yummy without anything on it.

And then got onto covering her Cruskits with chocolate spread and cheese.

Uh. Yum?

Did you know that two Cruskits contain 60% less carbs than two slices of most bread? Neither did I. A good reason to add them to my own diet and reduce the amount of carbs I’m inhaling too.

Check out the Cruskits Facebook page to check out the recipes available and share your own creations on there too.

We don’t make a huge deal over Valentine’s Day.

Our wedding anniversary is two days before it and that’s when we get all lovey dovey.

But I do still like to acknowledge the Day of Hearts by decorating just a little bit with little hearts and some sweets.

I’ve been searching online for some yummy treats to make to show my lurve for the husband and my babes.

And I thought I would share some of them.

Oh, and if you are looking for some more inspiration, check out my Valentine’s Day Pinterest board.

You’re welcome :)

I was going to call it “pav smash” but it already had a name

January 5, 2013

Remember the fabulous looking pavlova that I made before Christmas? That I made with the pre-made pavlova? Someone had the brilliant idea of buying a “pavlova magic” and making the whole thing from scratch instead of just chucking on the whipped cream, fruit and chocolate. Big mistake. Huge. What went from a nice looking meringue while it was baking in the oven quickly turned into a charcoaled mess that resembled a kind of burned out space rock. Or something. But the top looked ok. So I shared it on Instagram – as you do – and quickly tried to salvage the good bits, figuring that if I could layer the crumbled good bits with cream and fruits and chocolate, I could name my creation “pav smash”. All well and good. Until someone told me that it was already called Eton Mess. Meh. Whatever it was called, it’s in mah belleh.

What to expect of TGDM in 2013

January 2, 2013

So, just between you and me. No-one else is paying attention, yeah. Ok, good. I don’t have a plan written down with blog goals, and how many new subscribers, likers, followers, blah blah blah I want to have by the end of 2013. I just want to blog. And if you like what I blog about, fabulous! If you don’t like what I blog about, no worries. I think I’m old enough to know that I can’t make everyone like me. If you’re already a TGDMer, you probably won’t notice much of a difference in what you are already used to. There will be the same “main” topics like stories about my family and how I am pretending to be The Organised Housewife. My week according to Instagram will still be on Sundays (with the linky open all week in case you don’t blog on Sundays). There’ll be posts about me (because 2013 is about me – see the previous post) and maybe some posts about blogging, if there’s an interest. There will be sponsored posts. A girl’s gotta eat, right? They will be clearly identified (as I always have) because I know some of you don’t like those sorts [...]
